Celebrate history and the outdoors on Vermont Days

Montpelier, Vt. –– Vermonters and visitors can enjoy a free sample of Vermont’s fishing, state parks, cultural and historic resources during the annual Vermont Days weekend celebration June 11-12.

Vermont State Park day areas, state-owned historic sites, and the Vermont History Museum will be open at no charge all weekend.  Saturday, June 11 is free fishing day – the one day of the year when residents and non-residents may go fishing without a license. 

“Vermont Days is a perfect opportunity to explore the outstanding variety of recreation, culture and history in Vermont,” said Governor Peter Shumlin. “The event also showcases Vermont’s strong sense of community and the deep appreciation Vermonters share for this wonderful place we call home.”

Sponsored by the State of Vermont, Vermont Days includes activities and special events at state parks and historic sites, including horse-drawn wagon rides the President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site in Plymouth Notch, raptor demonstrations at Button Bay State Park in Ferrisburgh, and fishing clinics at Lake St. Catherine State Park in Poultney and Kill Kare State Park in St. Albans Bay.

Also, the Vermont History Museum in Montpelier will exhibit a full-sized wigwam, a re-creation of the Catamount Tavern with the Green Mountain Boys, and the “Freedom and Unity: One Ideal, Many Stories” multimedia exhibit.
